Plugging Gaps in Nigeria’s public healthcare

Gaps in the public healthcare system caused a break in the continuum of care, falling care quality for mother and child, lack of effective monitoring by field health workers, and under-adequate reach of healthcare benefits to the intended beneficiaries. Therefore, the need for a system that would work on the pain points, plug gaps wherever necessary, and facilitate seamless delivery of benefits to the targeted populace.

Solution

MEDPlat was utilized to address the issues. MEDPlat’s pre-configured modules were customized based on contextual needs, and the system was readied for implementation. As a result, a comprehensive health platform was implemented in Nigeria’ s regions in collaboration with partners like HACEY and IPRD. The platform has an Enumeration and Surveillance module. This has tasks for population registration and disease surveillance.

Impact Health facilitates effective segregation of beneficiaries into categories such as Eligible Couples, Children and Pregnant women, etc. Following this, RCH (Reproductive and Child Health) management modules like antenatal care, postnatal care, child services, and family planning manage the path ahead for the appropriate beneficiaries as they move through the health ecosystem. Workflows work in such a manner that walk-in patients can enter the health ecosystem at any given point, and their already enumerated details, data points, etc., appear on the Mobile/Web-based modules of the Nurse/Doctor/Appropriate Officer of the health infrastructure.

Workflows vary based on the health state of the beneficiary. Therefore, they can be configured as per the needs of the beneficiaries in a populace. Similarly, different role-based users are assigned appropriate tasks for the same.
